VIEWS & SHEETS

View Template Manager.

Inspect and compare view templates in depth: a full property inspector, an A/B compare that shows only the differences, the list of views using each template, and batch apply with an overwrite confirmation.

01 · THE PROBLEM

Without a tool, comparing two view templates in Revit means opening them one at a time, scrolling through dozens of rows of V/G overrides and filters, and remembering — or copying by hand — which setting differs where. Batch-applying the wrong one is worse: Revit overwrites silently, with no list showing which views are tied to which template.

Comparing two templates entirely by eye

Revit has no diff feature; comparing two templates means opening two Visibility/Graphic Overrides dialogs side by side and scanning every category and filter row by row — easy to miss the one difference buried at row 39.

No way to tell which views use which template

Finding out how many views a template edit will touch means opening each view, checking Properties, and noting it down by hand — Revit has no reverse lookup from template to view.

Batch apply with no confirmation step

Selecting several views and assigning a template in Properties overwrites their settings instantly, with no warning — pick the wrong views in the batch and there's no bulk undo.

Stale, unused templates just pile up

Over years a project accumulates dozens of templates no view references anymore; Revit has no way to filter them out, so the Project Browser keeps listing them all and clutters every template picker.

02 · FEATURES

What it does

There's no add-in on the Autodesk App Store today that does an A/B view-template compare — the Revit community itself keeps asking Autodesk to add one (the "View Template Compare" idea has sat unresolved on the Autodesk forum for years). The closest free add-in, Transfer Template, only copies templates across a linked model — it doesn't compare them or show which views use which. View Template Manager fills exactly that gap:

A

Inspect and compare

  • A full property inspector grouped by category
  • A/B compare with a show-only-differences filter
  • Read-only inspection of V/G and filter overrides
B

Apply

  • The list of views using a template — double-click to open
  • Batch apply with confirmation before overwriting
  • Find orphan templates no view references
