Work out each element's level from its built-in parameter or its Z elevation, then write the level name into the parameter you choose.
Not every element in Revit carries a meaningful Level — generic models, CAD-imported geometry, and skewed members hosted off their true floor all fall outside what the built-in Level parameter covers. Quantity schedules still need a 'Floor' column that matches the project's own naming convention, so filling it in is still a row-by-row typing job.
With no ready-made Floor column, the QS engineer has to open each element, read its elevation or check the plan, then type the floor name into the parameter cell — across a few thousand rows that eats a whole afternoon.
Skewed members, cantilever beams, or elements copied to a different elevation keep their old Reference Level — filtering by the built-in Level silently lumps them into the neighbouring floor until someone checks the take-off.
Add a new level, shift a floor's elevation, or copy a whole block to another zone — the Floor column typed in earlier never updates itself, forcing a row-by-row recheck to be sure nothing drifted.
With no standard list to pick from, everyone types it their own way — 'Tret', 'Trệt', 'GF' for the same floor — so the schedule mis-groups the moment someone filters or pivots by floor.
On the Autodesk App Store, Leveler ($12/year) and LevelAutoSet ($9.99 one-time) both reassign an element to its nearest floor — but they do it by overwriting the element's actual Reference Level, changing the host property itself. Set Location never touches the real Level: it only reads — from the built-in parameter when present, from Z elevation when it isn't — then writes the floor name into a separate parameter you choose, ready for schedules and take-offs, with no risk of shifting the element's elevation or host link.
