Adding one shared parameter to a handful of categories is a few clicks, but multiply that by the dozens of parameters a BEP standard requires and the dozens of categories in a project template, and it becomes an afternoon of repetition — and the moment someone retypes a parameter name instead of importing the original file, Revit treats it as two entirely different parameters.
Manage > Project Parameters adds one parameter per dialog trip — a standard BEP set of 30-40 parameters means repeating the category pick, group setting and confirmation that many times.
If someone retypes a parameter instead of re-importing the original .txt file, Revit generates a new GUID even though the display name matches — IFC exports, formula lookups and cross-project data quietly diverge with no warning.
Revit has no summary view of parameter coverage by category — gaps only surface once the quantity sheet lands in Excel with blank cells, forcing a trip back into Revit to hunt down the missing elements.
Revit's Purge Unused doesn't always catch a shared parameter still referenced in a type formula or a hidden schedule column — deleting the wrong one breaks the formula or drops the column with no clear warning.
On the Autodesk App Store, BindSharedParam ($10, Revit 2018-2022) can bind several shared parameters into a project, template or family at once and flags which already exist or sit unbound — but it stops there: no changing the display group or instance/type binding afterwards, no binding-aware delete, and no screen for auditing missing parameters before a take-off.
