01 · THE PROBLEM
Dimensioning a whole floor plan in stock Revit means clicking every object by hand, in the exact order it should appear on the dimension string. The Aligned Dimension tool can't tell what's already dimensioned, doesn't remember a string to reuse on another level, and each object type wants a different kind of pick.

Native Aligned Dimension requires clicking every object in the exact order it lands on the string — a building with a few dozen grid lines means a few dozen carefully ordered clicks, and one out-of-order pick means undoing the whole string.

A plan with a few dozen grids plus walls, columns and beams eats half a day to dimension by hand — and since Revit doesn't remember the string to reapply, the next typical floor starts from zero again.

Nothing flags a duplicate dimension
Native Aligned Dimension never checks whether an object is already dimensioned — re-dimension one grid by mistake and two dimension lines stack on top of each other, invisible until the sheet is printed.

Dimensioning a wall means picking its face, a column means picking its centre or face, a grid means picking the axis line — there's no single gesture, so newcomers have to memorise a different one for every object type.

What it does
The closest automation add-in on the Autodesk App Store, Auto Dimension Columns and Grids, costs $3/month and is only certified up to Revit 2022 — and its scope stops at column-to-nearest-grid dimensions, leaving walls, beams and levels for manual work.
