01 · THE PROBLEM
Grids and levels in Revit share one 3D extent by default — drag a datum end longer in one view and it stretches in every other view referencing that same extent. Customizing just one plan means switching each grid and each level to 2D mode individually, through a tiny round grip that only appears when the cursor sits exactly at the datum end.

A mid-size project with 15 grids and 5-8 levels means 20-23 elements, each needing its own click on the tiny 2D/3D grip, repeated for every plan that needs a custom look.

The mode-switch grip sits right next to the extend handle — miss it by a few pixels and you drag the datum end out of place instead of toggling the mode.

No way to see which grids are still on the shared 3D extent
Revit gives no visual flag for which elements are already 2D — edit a grid you assume is isolated but is actually still on 3D, and the change leaks into every other view without warning.

02 · FEATURES
What it does
The free ReviTea Grid/Level on the Autodesk App Store can switch 2D/3D too, but only bundled inside a Trim/Extend command that needs a reference boundary picked first, and its last update stopped at Revit 2017 — it won't install on Revit 2022 and later. Datum 2D skips the boundary step entirely, switching every grid and level in the active view in one click:
