Six modes
- Find & replace, pattern template, prefix/suffix
- Case transform, number sequence, CSV import
- Works on views, sheets, rooms, families, types, materials, levels and grids
Rename anything in bulk — views, sheets, rooms, families, types, materials, levels, grids — with six modes and a live preview.
In native Revit, renaming means F2, one object at a time, in the Project Browser — no preview, no templates, no batch. Rolling a new naming convention across a whole sheet set or a few hundred rooms means repeating that same manual edit for hours, and every duplicate name stops the operation cold.
The Project Browser only lets you edit a name in the F2 field, one object at a time; renumbering a 200–300 sheet set to a new standard means two or three hours of repeating that same manual edit.
Try to swap the names of two objects and Revit refuses outright because the target name already exists — you have to park a temporary name first and rename again a second time, and it's easy to lose track of what's already been fixed.
Batch renaming by hand-rolled script or repeated F2 has no upfront warning for duplicates or invalid characters — the error only surfaces when the transaction fails, forcing an undo and a retry.
Renaming rooms or views to match an approved Excel list means retyping every row into Revit by hand, or writing a Dynamo script yourself — native Revit has no CSV import for renaming.
On the Autodesk App Store, rename add-ins stop at one mode each: Renamer (free) is find & replace per category; Ideate SheetManager, part of the paid IdeateApps subscription, is also find & replace only, and it's limited to views and sheets — it doesn't touch rooms, families, materials, levels or grids. Smart Renamer folds six modes — find & replace, pattern template, prefix/suffix, case transform, number sequence, CSV import — into one window that spans every one of those object types:
The interface is matched to the tool window running in Revit.
Purge dead views, empty groups, unused families and leftover CAD imports — shrink the file before you issue.
Audit usage and duplicates; safely create, edit, duplicate, merge and delete Object, Line, Text, Dimension, Viewport and Scope Box styles. The AI assistant and account-saved presets only queue changes — you press Apply yourself.
Export PDF, DWG, IFC and NWC from a saved sheet set, named to the project rule with a per-issue log.
